Cognac Domaine Ravard

The estate :

The family single estate is located in Lachaise, on the border between the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus, Cognac crus recognised as the highest quality due to their terroir.
The family-owned estate is a typical Charente house, a veritable manor surrounded by its vineyards.

Origin :

In the attic of this large Charente house, numerous letters were found, written by a certain Andre Ravard, who had lived in the residence.
This correspondence with his family, comprising more than 200 detailed and immersive letters, plunges us into the heart of Napoleon's army at the beginning of the 19th century. Andre Ravard was enlisted as a simple soldier and took part in all the campaigns. He was promoted to the rank of captain.
This valiant soldier is an ancestor of the family that still runs and lives on the estate. He also received the medal of honour from Napoleon himself, and his captain's sabre has survived the ravages of time. These two relics are now in the possession of other descendants.
The estate was named after him in honour of this ancestor who lived in this house.
A genealogy of the current family spanning 10 generations, all of whom have lived on the estate, has been compiled.
