A brand marketing, the produce of the family estate’s vineyards ! For over two centuries, the Machenaud family has been cultivating vines in the village of Hiersac, situated in the Cognac wine region.
The historic heart of our estate lies in the hamlet of La Pouyade, in the commune of Hiersac within the Cognac wine region. Our vineyard plots are grouped together and are situated in Hiersac on the loamy soils typical of the Fins Bois region. For many generations, we have been cultivating the vines to produce wine, which we then distil to produce eaux-de-vie that will become Cognac.
The oldest official documents attesting to the activity of a distiller (bouilleur de cru) in the village of Hiersac date back to 1807. This document states that the “Régie des Droits Réunis” granted a distilling licence to one of our ancestors, thereby giving him the right to distil wine during the winter of that same year.
Around 1850, a certain Jean Machenaud began marketing his Cognac, produced in Hiersac, under the brand name “Beauchamp Machenaud”. Thanks to the quality of his Cognac, he enjoyed great success. The bottles were sold throughout France and even found their way to parts of Europe. Beauchamp Machenaud Cognac won numerous international awards, including first prize at the 1889 Paris World’s Fair.
