The historic heart of our estate lies in a place known as La Pouyade, in the commune of Hiersac within the Cognac wine region. Our vineyard plots are clustered together and are situated on the ‘groies’ soil typical of the Fins Bois. For many generations, we have been cultivating the vines to produce wine, which we then distil to create eaux-de-vie that will become Cognac.
The oldest official documents attesting to distilling activity (bouilleur de cru) in the village of Hiersac date back to 1807. This document states that the ‘Régie des Droits Réunis’ granted a distilling licence to one of our ancestors, thereby giving him the right to distil wine during the winter of that same year.
In the 1960s, Bernard Machenaud took over the family estate, restoring the vineyards and the buildings. During this period, he sold his entire production to the major Cognac houses.
In 2014, Henri Machenaud succeeded his father as head of the estate. In 2023, he decided to launch the Machenaud house brand at the historic site where his family first began winegrowing over two centuries ago. He hopes to showcase and share the quality of his produce, which is crafted on the family estate.
