  • Arlett Whisky
    Arlett Whisky

The Tessendier family has been excelling – with seriousness and passion – in the art of distillation for generations. The latest project brewing in their copper pipes is this vintage-styled whisky brand that pays tribute to the 50s and to the mother of Jérôme and Lilian.ARLETT, a well-made French whisky is the fruit of a fabulous journey. Grown from the bowels of the Earth. Fiercely heated with a specific, local, double-distillation method. Tirelessly refined by Jérôme and Lilian Tessendier – the two brothers who make sure every drop tastes just great.ARLETT, is all about flavour exploration and tracing a specific path – from the precise choice of raw materials to flavour selection.ARLETT, is born from a solid team effort whose aim is to create a real surprise in your palate and to see this surprizing sensation being shared between people, simply but with conviction.

In cocktails, with or without ice cubes, as an aperitif or in food pairing, this eau-de-vie will seduce amateurs who like to drink it pure at room temperature but who do not hesitate to use it as a base in the preparation of cocktails.

  • Château d'Orignac
    Château d'Orignac

    A place steeped in history

During the last century, Monsieur Paul Gros acquired the property from the descendants of Baron de Saint-Légier and gave the Château and park its modern day appearance. Being an enterprising and innovative man, it was he who imported phylloxera resistant rootstocks from America, a disease that had all but destroyed French vineyards at the end of the 19th century. By grafting traditional French vines to their American imports, the crisis was averted. In 1930, Helene Gros married a young naval officier, Hubert Meyer. They lived for many years in different towns, driven by the whims of the Navy, returning as often as possible to Orignac, their home. At the end of the war, the man who was to become Admiral Meyer was placed in charge of negotiating the liberation of the ports of the Charente. A duty which he executed with all the rigour and exactitude of a sea-faring man, before going on to become Mayor of Royan during the sixties.

    A unique terroir

This 20 ha vineyard is located in the heart of the appellation "Cognac Fins Bois" on limestone slopes near the Gironde estuary, 50 kms south of Cognac. On this exceptional and unique "terroir", we cultivate with passion and great attention 30 years old Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot grapes for the Pineau des Charentes and Ugni Blanc and Colombard, white grapes to elaborate the Cognac.

    A meticulous work

Convinced that the production of exceptional products passes above all by obtaining very high quality grapes, we bring to the culture of our vineyard, the most meticulous care. It is through daily, attentive and rigorous work, carried out by the winegrowers, that we perpetually strive to achieve this subtle balance between the climate, the soil, and the vines, which leads to perfect maturity and great richness of the grapes. Through attentive rigorous and meticulous viticultural management, we seek the subtle balance between climate, soil and vine to produce fruit of great maturity and richness. To preserve and offer future generations the quality and authenticity of our terroir, we practice sustainable agriculture.

    A preserved environment

Our domain is located in Charente-Maritime 10 kilometers from the Gironde estuary near the Taillon valley. Diversification and biodiversity have always been at the heart of our estate, where viticulture stands alongside cattle breeding, grasslands, cereal fields, an oak forest, charms, acacias and pines, an orchard, truffle oaks and a flower garden.

From father to son, on Charentais soil for seven generations.

In 1810, François Cabanne left his hometown La Vienne with his wife and his first two children to settle down in Charente. His eldest son who was bearing the same first name, in 1839 married a lady from Bourg-Charente and lived in Chez Genin. From that day, the family house, which has seen the birth of many family members, has been passed down from generation to generation. And it became evident that it was the most suitable place for headquarter of the company.

Upon the arrival of the Cabanne’s in Charente, they cultivated the land. Then in 1844, Jean-Célestin started the wine business, his son Philémon then developed the activity of distillation. The distillery started with 3 alembics copper stills, at that time was already significant. For five generations, the distillery has been passed from generation to generation, now it becomes one of the most important distillery in this region with 15 alembic copper stills. The vineyard and the distillery have not stopped growing, each generation brings its own contribution.

Richard Delisle was founded en 1834, linked to the family of Mitterrand. At the end of Second World War, the family Cabanne owned this brand and then gave this name to their Cognac.

    Gauthier Bernard et Fils

A hundred years ago, our grandparents and great-grandparents left their town of Birac where they were sharecroppers and jobbers to become owners in Malaville. They had just bought a fallow farm and buildings in ruins, the consequences of phylloxera which had wiped out the region’s economy. Despite the 3 ha of vines, it's breeding and mixed farming that have enabled them to live and redevelop. Thanks to Vincent and Anatolie, Léandre and Zelia. Since 1750, they lived in Birac and gave their name to their own village “Les petits Gauthiers”. By dint of hard work, they rebuilt the house and cleared the fields and the vines: it was a small farm of 3 ha of vines, 15 ha of land and nearly 10 ha of woods with 4 cows, 2 oxen and 2 horses . Their pride was to rebuild the house and then to buy a tractor in 1953.

    1957 to 1959

Albert, son of Léandre, took over two small neighboring farms, one of which had a still. Albert became a winegrower and distiller from the 1959 harvest.

    1972 to 1982

Bernard took over the business in 1972. The vineyards grew to 12 ha. In 1973, a new distillery was built and the 7 hl still was abandoned for a new 25 hl still. In 1982, we took on new vines for rent to increase the vineyard to 45 ha.

    From 1998

Patrice and Vincent take over from Bernard. The vineyards increased to 60 ha and, above all, thanks to the accumulated stocks of Cognac, they were able to embark on the adventure of direct bottles sales.

In the heart of the Cognac vineyards, in Grande Champagne - 1er Cru du Cognac - Maison Laurichesse is a family business with a dual paternal and maternal heritage.

The vineyards covers 60 hectares, divided between Angeac-Champagne, Segonzac and Verrières. Olivier, representing the 5th generation, looks after the vines and supervises distillation and cellar work, while Léa, his wife, manages administration and business development. Their roles are complementary, but together they select the best eaux-de-vie.

The soils of Grande Champagne, rich in clay and limestone, provide unique hydric regulation and aromatic complexity to the vines that thrive here. The vineyard's heterogeneous plots benefit from unique microclimates that influence grape quality. Careful harvesting guarantees the quality of the base wine. Pressing is delicate, using pneumatic presses to extract the juice, which is then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Charentaise distillation, or double distillation, is carried out using three traditional copper stills. The first heating produces the "brouillis", then the "bonne chauffe" is distilled again to obtain the "cœur" of the distillate. The cellar master cuts these different fractions to preserve the purest, most aromatic part of the nectar. This is what will be used for ageing. Mastery of the art of ageing, carried out in oak barrels from local cooperages, finally confers the distinctive depth that is the hallmark of Maison Laurichesse Cognac.

For four centuries, our family has cultivated the land and vines mainly of Grande Champagne.

The vineyards, now in the hands of Alain and Charles, covers around fifty hectares, mainly Ugni Blanc, but also Folle Blanche for the production of Cognac and white Pineau des Charentes and 2 hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the production of our wine and red Pineau.

All  the vines are managed using sustainable agriculture : our vines only receive very limited doses of treatment products and fertilizers depending on the pressure of cryptogamic diseases.

The  white wines obtained, stored without preservatives on their lees, are entirely distilled by us in old 16 hectoliters stills using the “à repasse” method.

The   eaux-de-vie resulting from this traditional distillation are patiently aged in our cellars in Bernac and Lachaise : after a systematic stay of 12 to 18 months in new French oak barrels, they're placed for the end of their ageing in old barrels.

The  Pineau des Charentes from the Petite Champagne vineyards in Lachaise are placed in barrels for at least 5 years before blending and marketing.

W e use 7 different coopers, selected over the years, to bring complexity and quality to all our production. The 350 or 300 liters barrels for Cognac are made from Limousin oak (coarse-grained wood).

The wine barrels are made from fine-grained wood (Allier type) and medium-grained wood from central France.

  • Merlet & Fils
    Merlet & Fils

Since 1850 the Distillerie Merlet & Fils has been distilling Cognac « Eaux-de-Vie » for some of the most reknown Cognac houses. Originally focused on this activity the company made the choice of diversification under Gilles Merlet’s influence.

In the 1970’s a tough economic environment lead Gilles to experiment some alternative cultivations. He ended up by planting some blackcurrant bushes and the first “crème de cassis” bottles would then be shortly produced. A full range of fruit liqueurs would then follow and has been traded under the Merlet brand since then. The Distillerie Merlet & Fils had also invested in partnership with several other vine growers in a wine making plant.

In 2001 Merlet & Fils creates the liqueur Hpnotiq and gets its production exclusivity. The sales boomed in the USA which allowed the distillery to invest in a modern bottling plant. Since then the company has focused its development on innovation.

In 2005 has began the Leblon project in partnership the company Leblon LLC. The Distillerie Merlet & Fils is such involved in this project that they decide in 2008 to buy a Cachaça distillery in Brasil.

In 2009 the Merlet Fruits Liqueurs range harvests many awards in several international spirits competitions and the brand SYMPA is launched. Between development of its own brands and services for private labels the Distillerie Merlet & Fils carries on innovating and constantly creates the buzz.

PATIENCE : THE ART OF TIMING

TURNING TIME INTO THE SAFEST OF ALLIES

Timing is everything. In order to have the best maturation possible, it is essential to wait for the right moment. Both Cognac and watchmaking require patience; time can be counted in years, even decades.
During a long period in casks, our Cognacs acquire the wood components that give them their characteristic golden, amber and mahogany color.
Over time, delicate oak wood and vanilla notes develop to further enhance the aromas and flavors. Finally, with evaporation, traditionally called “the angel’s share”, the Cognac becomes concentrated into a work of art for the connoisseur’s nose and the palate.
Our different Cognacs are carefully assembled throughout this aging process to create the ultimate result Pierre Lecat is proud of today.

ABEL PLANAT, former aide-de-camp of Napoleon, created in 1828 the Planat & Co. Trading Company and took advantage of the dynamism commercial cognac to become one of the biggest exporters.

OSCAR PLANAT, son of Abel took over in 1858 and developed the business, making the brand one of the top 3 in the world, alongside Hennessy and Martell. Oscar Planat also marked the history of his region by becoming, like his father, Deputy of Charente and Mayor of Cognac.

In 1889, Oscar’s sister Claire inherited the business and entrusted the management to her two sons-in-law.

When they died, it was Joseph Pionneau, the Cellar Master of the house PLANAT, trained by Oscar himself, who took over the reins of the society. He and his son will contribute to the sustainability of the brand until 1966, when the Maison Camus bought the buildings in the heart of Cognac as well as the brand.

Camus will contribute to PLANAT’s international development until 2018, when the brand is sold to the Cognac Planat & Co.

Discovering the ageing process of Cognac.

Legend has it that towards the end of the 16th century, a knight of great renown gave two barrels of his brandy to the monks of the Renorville chapel. It was not until the 17th century, one April morning, when the monks were making an inventory of the chapel, that they found a barrel forgotten under the cloister.

When they removed the bung, they realised that a large part of the distilled wine had evaporated: La Part des Anges. They took the glass dipped in the barrel and before their astonished eyes, a miracle: the white brandy had become Cognac".
And so, in the region, the legend of the origin of "the discovery of the ageing of Cognac brandy" has been perpetuated.

    "Enter the Legend of Cognac"

Dive into the twists and turns of time with Cognac Raynaud and discover the fascinating history of the Chapelle de la Renorville, a historic jewel whose mystical aura has endured through the ages. Nestling in the heart of the deep valley where the wide Renorville stream winds its way through a thousand detours to join the river Né, this chapel was once a popular place of pilgrimage, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. It was founded in ancient times by Aimeri Taillefer, a knight who happily returned from the Crusades, and initially belonged to the Templar church in Angles.

A captivating story is embedded in every drop of Cognac "La Légende". Inspired by the centuries-old tradition of the monks of Renorville, this sublime creation celebrates the art of transformation. From the generous gift of a knight to the monks, to the miraculous revelation of an eau-de-vie that became Cognac, the legacy continues down the centuries, weaving an unbreakable link between past and present.
